I love my job. Every day I get the opportunity to immerse myself in new subject matter.

Meet Ella
Founder + Creative Director of Sometime Communications
During my twenty-year communications career, I’ve been a pre-digital newspaper flunky, an award-winning journalist, and a seasoned copywriter. Although being humbled by the sometimes-harsh realities of brand marketing made it clear that the flashy world of advertising isn’t really for me, it also taught me that clear communication is everything.
Nothing lights me up more than learning, and at work this looks like simplifying complex materials into digestible information and presenting them in a beautiful way that audiences remember. As a former journalist, I know the right questions to ask in order to understand who your audience is, what they need to know, and how to most effectively communicate your intended message.
Although I’m now more of a Don Draper than a Peggy Olson, I can say this with my whole chest: I love my job. Every day I get the opportunity to immerse myself in new subject matter while using my skills in editing, applied research, and technical writing to elevate organizations’ content.
The real fun starts when I lean on my team’s expertise to take your materials next-level with compelling visuals and clear, consistent messaging. (And yes, I get that my definition of “fun” is a little bit nerdy.) I’m passionate about what I do because I’ve seen how clear communication creates confidence, drives real results, and empowers teams to thrive.
Speaking of teams, mine is fabulous. When I founded Sometime Communications, I knew I’d need to bolster my unique skillset with experts in content, art direction, and design to create a full-service agency–so I can continue doing the work that fires me up (hello, getting paid to have perfect grammar!) and maintain that ever-elusive work/life balance. When I’m not fighting for proper comma placement and mapping wireframes on Figma, you can find me in the North Vancouver mountains spending time with my family or getting muddy on long trail runs.
I’m so happy you’re here! Let’s get to work.
